Butterfly weed (asclepias tuberosa)

I love butterfly weed.  It is a native plant (milkweed genus) that I've loved from the first time I saw one.  I have a plant that my sister and I dug up from her property.  It is flourishing and is currently in bloom.

A few days ago, as I was backing out of the drive, I pointed out to Caleb how pretty it was.  I caught a glimpse of an insect on it and asked, "Is that a butterfly or a bee on the butterfly weed?"
"A bee.  Two bees...  or not two bees..."
"That was my question."

  1. The Two Bees. are to be left alone, I guess. Good pictures. The pictures are so clear I Can see the wings. Neat. Neat shots. I like the flowers also.

  2. When I was getting my butterfly weed photo the other day it had bees coming and going too, usually just a blur though. We also have common milkweed that comes up every year and I leave it for the butterflies.

    1. So far this year, I've been seeing lots more bees than butterflies.
