WNC Air Museum

While we were in Hendersonville last month, we took the opportunity to visit the Western North Carolina Air Museum.  It is a great little museum in an out-of-the-way place next to the Hendersonville Airport.  The day we were there, several photography clubs had converged on the place, so it was probably a bit more crowded than usual.  There were friendly and helpful docents who made us feel welcome.  There were lots of little planes and displays of paraphernalia in the building.  I will let my pictures paint the words.

You can definitely feel the spirit here of Snoopy and his Sopwith Camel fighting the Red Baron.

  1. It is amazing to keep planes in such condition. And knowing these were fun planes too, that these were much safer for the pilot also I would think because they were built to act like gliders and sail for long distances looking for a safe place to land, vs. the new planes so heavy they fall like a rock when they lose power.
Oh and the pilots fatigue uniform brought back so many memories, seeing them every day on an aircraft carrier. Thanks.
    Yeah I can see Snoopy!
