Mockingbird political debate

If you've done much backyard bird watching, you've probably seen mockingbirds engage in this behavior.  I'm guessing they may be vying for winter feeding territories, but I really don't know.  When my son was young, he said they were having a political debate.  Kids say the cutest things.
(By the way, this is the first time I've tried to post a video to my blog from my hard drive.  I attempted several times before it actually posted.  Let me know if you are able to view the video, which is only about a half minute video.  Thanks.)

  3. I couldn't see it on my iPad. Not sure what the deal is. But we do have mockingbirds that will tell you the news at the drop of a hat. Have you ever tried to mimic one? They will throw a stream of jibber at you that is impossible to mimic:)

    1. What's really entertaining is to ask a kid to mimic one. I did that once when my son was quite young, and that was lots of fun.
I remember a funny incident in our neighborhood involving the sound a mockingbird mimics. A neighbor had one of those motion-activated frogs that would ribbit whenever anyone passed by. One day the UPS driver threw a carton on the deck in front of the frog and the frog croaked all day. By that afternoon, the mockingbird had added that sound to his repertoire.
